Worked example: Moser Baer v6 (frozen 2026-10-25)

The script the user approved ("i like v6"). Frozen here as the model for the next script's structure, voice and file set. The live version is research/the-fall-of-moser-baer/script/; if the two differ, this copy is the one that was approved. It is an example of form, not of facts: do not copy its sentences into another topic.

Files: SCRIPT-v6.md (packaging, spine, script, changes, ledger, do-not-use, open items), chain-v6.json (the declared structure), HANDOFF-v6.md, STATUS-v6.md (the gate report), lint/lint-v6.md (55 rules, all pass) and lint/compare-v5-v6.md.

How to read it

Open SCRIPT-v6.md section 3 next to chain-v6.json. Every quote in the chain is a phrase that occurs verbatim (ignoring case and punctuation) in the script. The linter checks that; you can check it by eye. Below, where each declared field lives in the text.

The hook (110 s, 275 words, one figure) and the chain fields it carries

ParagraphText (shortened)Chain field
1"You've almost certainly held one: a blank disc, a burnt movie, a college project, with a small name near the hole. Moser Baer."a viewer stake (nostalgia), the brand
2"For years, one company outside Delhi made more of those discs than almost anyone on Earth. One morning in November 2017, its workers reached the plant in Greater Noida and found it dark... On the third day the gate stayed shut. It never opened again."cdl.hook_elements.rise_quote, cdl.first_payoff_quote (inside 30 s), fall_quote
3"One of its workers, Mahesh Sharma, had spent 17 years inside. He was the workers' union president, and he told a magazine they'd give up part of their pay to save it."the witness (humans H3), pull P3 (jeopardy)
4"What bothered me, reading the rating notes and the creditors' claims, is that this company knew how to get out of trouble. Its founder, Deepak Puri, was a landlord's son who wanted no part of the land, and he'd made his career walking away from whatever was running out. It had always worked. I think the last way out is a big part of why that gate is shut."the earnest voice (persona.earnest), the protagonist with a want (person_quote, H1), pull P1 (motif), cdl.destination_quote
5"On the way there's a cocktail party on America's west coast, a press conference with one sentence that aged badly, and a six-month stretch where the company said one thing in December and was doing another by June. By the end you'll have three questions to ask any company that says it's diversifying, and probably yourself, the next time your own field starts to shrink."forward_quotes, ladder rung 2 and rung 3 seeds, learning_quote, viewer_quote
6"To see how a way out becomes a trap, start with the first one: the day Deepak Puri walked away from something that was working. Why would he?"cdl.question_quote, the spine loop L0, the compel line (a question about a person's decision)

No route term appears (solar, bond, debt, crore, Calcutta...). Those are in cdl.withheld and checked by rule B2.

A beat as a sandwich: beat 4 ("The treadmill")

  1. A picture the viewer can feel (the parable, figures F5, a viewer stake): "Say you sell tea from a stall, and the stall next door drops its price a little. You drop yours a little more, so he does too. By the end of the week the whole lane is busier than ever, and nobody's richer."
  2. The claim and its stake (hero_numbers N2 stake_quote, the care line): "each time one maker wins a customer on price, the price drops for every maker".
  3. The number: "fell from as much as 28 cents to as little as 14".
  4. The landing (landing_quote): "It was the tea lane again, with factories for stalls."
  5. The governing metaphor (F1): "Call it the treadmill: the faster you run, the faster the floor moves."
  6. A prediction (pull P5) that the next beat tests: "you'd expect sales to barely move and the profit to go first. There should be a sign, and it should be in the year that ended in March 2008."
  7. The compel line (the last sentence, compel_quote) that the next beat opens on (next_opens_with: "In the year to March 2008").

The figures, from the chain

The persona, from the chain

Earnest lines in beats 0, 6, 7, 11, 12 ("I couldn't find what it earned", "I haven't found where that money went"). Aloof lines in beats 1, 5, 11, 12 ("I'm not going to referee Bengal's politics", "I don't have a favourite theory. I have the company's own statement", "Nobody in this story needed to be a villain", "I don't need it to be a scam, and I won't pretend it is"). Contested calls told both ways in beats 1, 6 and 12 (persona.sides).

The cast

Protagonist Deepak Puri (hook, 1 to 5, 8, 11, 13, and as "the founder's family" in 12), counterpart Ratul Puri (3, 7, 9, 12), witness Mahesh Sharma (hook, 3, 10, 13). "You" appears in the hook, beats 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12 and the close (five of those are declared as viewer_stakes). No stretch longer than 60 seconds without a person or "you" (rule I4).

The pulls (what the viewer waits for)

P1 the way out (motif), P2 21 June 2012 (clock), P3 the people in the plant (jeopardy), P4 where the bond's money went (gap, admitted aloud), P5 the prediction and its test, P6 the price that keeps falling (pattern), P7 the investor who backed the boom (jeopardy), P8 "never been more excited" in 2003 (irony). Each is planted, touched in the text at least twice and resolved or openly left open.

The ledger and the other sections

Section 5 of the script is the fact ledger with a status on every row ([V], [V-search], derived, analysis); "Illustrations and figures" lists what is invented (the parables) and what each analogy does and does not map; section 6 lists the rival-video claims that were not used and why; section 7 lists what must be confirmed before filming. ledger-check.js verifies that every spoken figure is in the ledger.

What this example is not

It was reached across five rounds of feedback, not in one pass. It has not had a blind-reader pass (v4 did). Its persona, its parables and its 110-second hook are design bets that differ from the winners we measured. See references/quality-bar.md, part 4.

### A beat as a sandwich: beat 4 ("The treadmill")

1. **A picture the viewer can feel** (the parable, `figures` F5, a viewer stake): "Say you sell tea from a stall, and the stall next door drops its price a little. You drop yours a little more, so he does too. By the end of the week the whole lane is busier than ever, and nobody's richer."
2. **The claim and its stake** (`hero_numbers` N2 `stake_quote`, the care line): "each time one maker wins a customer on price, the price drops for every maker".
3. **The number**: "fell from as much as 28 cents to as little as 14".
4. **The landing** (`landing_quote`): "It was the tea lane again, with factories for stalls."
5. **The governing metaphor** (F1): "Call it the treadmill: the faster you run, the faster the floor moves."
6. **A prediction** (pull P5) that the next beat tests: "you'd expect sales to barely move and the profit to go first. There should be a sign, and it should be in the year that ended in March 2008."
7. **The compel line** (the last sentence, `compel_quote`) that the next beat opens on (`next_opens_with`: "In the year to March 2008").

### The figures, from the chain

- Governing metaphor: introduced in beat 4, touched in beats 4, 8 and 11, **limit stated in beat 9**: "A treadmill has a stop button. A bond with a date doesn't."
- Glosses by analogy tied to jargon terms: bond ("a tab you only see at closing time"), recast ("a bit like asking a landlord to rewrite your lease"), liquidation ("the contents of a house at a forced auction").
- Parables: the tea lane (beat 4), the restaurant queue (beat 9); both open "Say you", neither contains a figure.

### The persona, from the chain

Earnest lines in beats 0, 6, 7, 11, 12 ("I couldn't find what it earned", "I haven't found where that money went").
